As August begins, we find ourselves reflecting on a summer filled with joy, connection, and unforgettable memories at Shake-A-Leg Miami. July was an incredible month—and it’s all thanks to you.
Before we share our highlights, we want to take a moment to express our deepest condolences to the families and community affected by the recent tragic sailing accident on Biscayne Bay. Our hearts are with everyone impacted. As a waterfront community, we offer our condolences and support during this difficult time.
To our amazing parents, teachers, captains, mentors, and the entire Shake-A-Leg Miami family—thank you. Your energy, passion, and dedication bring our mission to life every single day. And to our generous donors, your belief in what we do fuels the experiences we’re able to offer.
July was packed with meaningful moments: our campers flourished in the final weeks of summer camp, we came together during our ever-popular Bay Days, celebrated inclusion and accessibility at our ADA Celebration, shared joy at Family Bay Day, and embraced creativity and spirit during a vibrant Spirit Week.
Each of these moments reminded us why we do what we do—and just how powerful community can be.
We’re looking ahead with excitement and hope, ready to keep sailing forward with you by our side.
On July 19, we welcomed individuals with spinal cord injuries and their families to a very special Bay Day at Shake-A-Leg Miami. It was a day filled with connection, movement, and the simple joy of being out on the water.
Participants sailed, kayaked, explored the bay, and shared laughs with our team of captains, volunteers, and friends. For many, it was a chance to experience freedom and adventure in a way that felt empowering and healing.
We’re so grateful to everyone who made this day possible—from our amazing staff and volunteers to the families who joined us, and especially to our supporters who continue to believe in our mission of inclusion.

Celebrating Inclusion
ADA Day at Shake-A-Leg
On July 25, we came together to celebrate the Americans with Disabilities Act—and what a beautiful day it was! The event was filled with energy, laughter, and meaningful moments that reminded us why inclusion matters.
Our kids danced, performed poems, and joined in a special reading of the ADA, celebrating the rights and progress that have opened doors for so many. It was a powerful blend of fun and purpose, showing just how bright the future is when everyone is included.

Summer Camp Magic
at Shake-A-Leg Miami
What an incredible summer it’s been at Shake-A-Leg Miami! Our camp was full of smiles, sunshine, and unforgettable experiences on the water. Campers explored Biscayne Bay by kayak, sailboat, and paddleboard, made new friends, and discovered just how capable they really are.
From morning circle-ups to afternoon adventures, every day brought something new—whether it was learning to steer a boat, getting creative with art, or simply sharing laughs with teammates. Our staff, volunteers, and mentors brought the energy, and our campers brought the heart.
To our families, supporters, and everyone who made this camp possible—thank you. You helped create a space where kids of all abilities could grow, play, and shine.

With cowboy hats, big smiles, and sunny skies, families came together to close out the summer with a day full of fun, laughter, and community spirit. From camper-led presentations and eco-tours around Biscayne Bay to sailing, kayaking, dancing, and delicious bites, every moment was filled with joy and connection.

Spirit Week Fun at the Bay
A Day Full of Smiles and Family
What a fantastic week we had celebrating Spirit Week at the Bay! From Marvel Monday’s superhero costumes to the colorful chaos of Tie-Dye Tuesday, every day brought a fresh burst of fun and creativity. Western Wednesday saw cowboy hats and boots everywhere, and July-O-WeenThursday gave us a delightful spooky twist right in the middle of summer.
Friday was extra special—our Safety Day brought some real-life heroes to the Bay! Campers got to meet members of the NYPD and Miami Fire Department, check out their fire trucks, and even dress up in firefighter uniforms. Their service dogs came along too, making lots of new furry friends. To top it all off, they treated everyone to delicious ice cream, making it a day full of learning, excitement, and big smiles.
And the heartwarming finale? A day with families by the water, where our campers put on performances for their loved ones. The laughter, applause, and pride on everyone's faces reminded us what community is all about.

Safety Day on the Bay
Connecting, and Celebrating Community
What a way to wrap up the summer! On Friday, August 1, we hosted Safety Day on the Bay—a powerful finale to our 2025 Summer Camp and Spirit Week.
With the support of the Miami Fire and Police Departments, our campers explored fire trucks, marine patrol vessels, and emergency equipment up close. They engaged with first responders in hands-on learning experiences that brought safety education to life—both on land and on the water.
The event was more than just exciting—it was empowering. Youth of all abilities got to learn, explore, and connect with their community in meaningful ways. It was a shining example of how inclusion, education, and adventure come together at Shake-A-Leg Miami.
A huge thank you to our amazing partners, staff, volunteers, and families for helping us close out the summer with purpose and pride.
We’re already looking forward to the next wave of learning on the Bay!
